Effects of partial or total replacement of sunflower meal with camelina meal on dairy cows’ milk fatty acids profile – S Toma, C Dragomir, M Habeanu, M Ropota, A Cismileanu, H Grosu – Archiva Zootechnica 2015

Summary: The replacement of sunflower meal by camelina meal didn’t have a significant effect on milk yield or on mil components (protein, fat and lactose).
On the other hand, due to its content in residual oil, and although was not protected against ruminal biohydrogenation, camelina meal improved the milk FA profile, by increasing PUFA n-3 and n-6. Of these noticeable effects were observed for CLA, a FA known for its beneficial effects on milk consumers’ health. This raises the opportunity to implement cost-efficient feeding strategies for improving milk FA profile. However, more studies are necessary in order to clarify the effects on LNA and other biologically active FA.
